WELCOME TO THE YELLOW ROOM (THREE YEAR OLDS)

The teachers greatly anticipate a "wonder-filled" year. By exploring our different learning centers, your child will gain new skills and enhance previous abilities. We believe each child is unique and learns best through a rich, nurturing environment where he/she can explore, experiment and communicate with others. Our schedule is designed to help each student deal with challenging tasks that might at first appear overwhelming. With some practice, we feel your child will become a confident learner.

SOME SKILLS WE WILL PRACTICE:

Self-Help Skills:

Turn faucet on & off when washing hands

Dress & undress without assistance including putting on coat

Take care of bathroom needs independently

Pour from a pitcher into a cup without spilling

Cognitive Skills:

Begin recognizing letters and numerals presented each month

Develop decision making, discrimination, classification and matching skills

Develop attention span, symbolic play, and memory skills

Begin concept development.

Social/Emotional Skills:

Experience pride, self-confidence, and independence

Develop self-control and share toys with some adult prompting

Have a positive attitude towards life

Independently choose a toy and begin to play

Pretend to be engaged in familiar activities (phone a friend, clean, cook, etc.)

Identify with own sex

Verbal Skills:

Increase vocabulary & comprehension skills using spoken & written words

Name objects, places, actions, and people

Follow words from left to right and top to bottom in a book

Organize thoughts and ideas for verbal expression

Motor Skills:

Begin to display hand preference

Put pop-beads together

Cut from one side of a paper to the other side

Walk up stairs with alternating feet

Catch a ball

Climb jungle gym and ladders

Balance on one foot
